A few years back Canon, a manufacturer of imaging and optical products headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, introduced Photo All-In-One Inkjet Printers. This new line was called the Pixma series. The Canon Pixma 480 came out in August of 2008 and fit the niche for easy to use portable inkjet printers that specialize in color photography.
The highpoint of this machine is its ability to print 4″x6″ borderless photos in only 45 seconds. The inkjet colors are found to be more long lasting than many others in the industry. A new four color delivery system of two inkjet cartridges provides vivid colors and sharp black text. The printed output can provide photos or documents up to 2400 x 4800 color dpi resolution on letter, legal, 4″ x 6″, 5″ x 7″, 8″ x 10″, and U.S. #10 envelopes. The copier will print black documents at the rate of one page every 3 seconds. Color documents are a little slower at a single page produced every 3.8 seconds.
The Canon Pixma 480 scanner uses a Contact Image Sensor utilizing maximum optical resolutions of 2400 x 4800 dpi. The scanner features are Auto Scan Mode, Gutter Shadow Correction, Push Scan, and Scan to Memory.
The photo reproduction system allows the use of a memory card placed into the built-in card slot. This precludes the use of a computer for printing your favorite digital photos. You can preview your shots on the 1.8″ LCD display and after some editing with the Auto Photo Fix you then can print directly from the memory card. The system also permits printing directly from your phone or digital camera through the Bluetooth interface device.
The physical appearance is appealing being light gray with black trim. Its size allows it to fit neatly on most mid-sized office desks. One nice feature is that the paper tray is self-operating so that it can stay closed until you start to print and then the machine opens up by itself while it is printing. The Canon Pixma 480 has a Quick Start feature which powers up the unit in less than three seconds. The ability to make black and white or color copies in less than twenty seconds is quite appreciable as well. And speaking of making copies, the 480 will make up to ninety-nine copies in a single job without having to push the button for every page.
Some of the things that other consumers have liked about the Canon Pixma 480 are:
- Compact design at 17.5″ x 13.1″ x 6.1″ overall size
- Lightweight weighing only 12.5 pounds
- Quite durable construction
- Easy to setup
- Reliable
- Fast print speed
- Low ink consumption
- Sharp tones and colors
At just under $100 list price, the Canon Pixma 480 is really a good deal for a All-In-One color inkjet printer.
